Often appearing as AK, Ghanaian and American artist Akwetey Orraca-Tetteh is pulled by what he calls “the psychometry of visual language.” A 3D engineer, painter, and performance artist, Orraca-Tetteh creates post-digital works born from internet glitch captures, 3D tech, painting, and virtual reality. In his work the New York based artist converses with ideas of emotive digital consciousness and memory states. Within an immersive practice sparked by mythology, philosophy, and technology, Orraca-Tetteh reimagines the natural world through a digital prism intimating the complexities and harmonic realities within our current moment. A staunch interdisciplinary artist, Orraca-Tetteh notably contributes original vocal and narrative composition to the groundbreaking video essay Grosse Fatigue, created in collaboration with artist Camille Henrot and the recipient of the 55th Venice Biennale’s Silver Lion award. The 13 minute film has since exhibited at The New Museum, The Guggenheim and The Museum of Modern Art. Orraca-Tetteh is also a strong advocate for the future of the arts in Africa & the Diaspora, serving on the host committees of the 1:54 Contemporary African Art Fair and AMREF’s Art Ball.
